How we work
The rules for China changed recently and many still follow the old route. On 7 November 2023 the Hague Convention entered into force for the PRC: two-step consular legalisation was replaced by a single apostille. That is quicker and cheaper, but it covers public documents only — commercial papers may follow different requirements, so we check per document. We also pay attention to the rendering of names and company names: the Chinese transcription must be identical across every document in a deal.

Frequently asked questions
Is consular legalisation still needed for China?
For public documents, no longer. Since 7 November 2023 the Hague Convention has been in force for the PRC, and an apostille obtained in Ukraine replaces consular legalisation. Some commercial documents may still follow different rules, so we check the specific paper.
Simplified or traditional characters?
Simplified for mainland China; traditional is usual for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. If the document will be used in several jurisdictions, tell us in advance.
How is a company name rendered?
We agree it with you before starting and keep it identical across the file. If you already have a Chinese name in registries or earlier contracts, we use that rather than inventing a new one.
